Defending press freedom. Advancing journalists' welfare.
The Federation of Working Journalists Kerala (FWJK) is the state-level voice of media professionals — registered, recognised, and rooted in seven decades of trade-union heritage.
Our mission in Kerala
FWJK exists to protect the rights, dignity, and welfare of working journalists across Kerala — whether reporters, sub-editors, photojournalists, camerapersons, or digital producers. We advocate for fair wages, safe working conditions, professional development, and the editorial independence that democracy depends on.
From district-level chapter activity to state-wide campaigns, FWJK supports members through grievance redressal, legal aid, training programmes, and solidarity with allied movements for social justice.

The IFWJ connection
FWJK is affiliated with the Indian Federation of Working Journalists (IFWJ) — the largest journalist organisation in the non-aligned world, founded in New Delhi on 28 October 1950.
Independent India's first trade union of media persons, the IFWJ has over 30,000 primary and associate members, working for electronic media, news agencies and 1,260 journals across 17 languages in 35 states and Union Territories. Overseas Indians employed in other continents are among its primary members.
The IFWJ's fraternal organisations in the media world are the National Federation of Newspaper Employees (N.F.N.E., New Delhi) and the National Confederation of Newspaper and News Agencies' Employees Organizations (Mumbai).
